Ukerewe

At Hamyebe, also a landmark cross can be seen, marking the 100-year of the Catholic mission arriving at Ukerewe. In the area around this setting, many cresset stones for grinding flour can be found.

At Bukindo, the present residence of the Chief of Ukerewe is situated. The palace was designed and built by Italian civil engineers in 1928 and it has recently been restored.

The Wakerewe people are well aware of its history and the strong cultural traditions in Ukerewe. Many dancing groups exist and traditional healers are still active in their clinics.
